Back on the Quilting Wagon

by Marie on February 24, 2009

I had a goal last year to make one quilt a month. Well, I did good for the first 6 months, until I had a baby last June and all sewing stopped at that point. But now that my little snuggley baby has worked out a good napping schedule, I’m going to get back to my goal!

The first up is my baby’s quilt I started last May, pictured above. I hope to have this one done by the end of March and if you haven’t seen it posted by then, ask me where it is!!

To help me get some fun fresh inspiration for my goal this year, here’s a few great quilting sites I love:

Good luck! I’m an amateur quilter and I LOVE it. It’s tough to make time for it but worth it.

I have started quilting since my kids take a good nap in the afternoons. I had to try the crazy nine patch tutorial after I first saw it (a couple of weeks back). It was sooo easy! I did make regular nine patches, then cut them into disappearing nine patches using this: http://quiltsatcs.blogspot.com/2007/04/disappearing-9-patch-tutorial.html. I really love the way it has come out, and I am hoping to make some more squares with these tutorials.
Good luck on getting your quilts finished. I am currently working on a large twin quilt for my daughter’s March birthday.

I am so with you on this… I have two that all they need is the binding done and two that I have fabric for, just need them done by May.

I have tried my hand at quilting more than once and I seem to not have the patience for it. Maybe this year will be my year to actually make one instead of just talking about it!

hey, don’t feel bad. i think all of us with little ones understand. we set the goal but that doesn’t necessarily mean that we will attain the goal! It is hard to get the sewing rhythm going with a baby in the house. I’m with ya.

You are on a good start and just enjoy it when you find the time, don’t stress about it.

I sew more and more with my toddler on my lap, it seems an experience all my kids what to make and why not?

Super Mom… I mean Marie-

I would really like to get a copy of your daily routine so that I can learn how to manage my time better. I’m amazed at your awesomeness. I have a 2 year-old and a baby that sleeps all day long and I can barely keep the house straight.

I can’t wait to see the marvelous quilts that you kick out! I also follow Crazy Mom Quilts, and Old Red Barn. I want to look at the other ones you’ve linked. BTW, I am hosting a giveaway this week to celebrate my 1st blog birthday. Come by and enter! http://www.whenlifegivesyoulemons2.blogspot.com.

You know what you need to go look at, there is this really cool sewing store across the stree from Kohlers in Highland called I Sew, it is next door to the Blue Lemon Bistro. They have the cutest, trendiest fabric but the best thing is they have a packet to make a Very Hungry Cattepillar quilt! They have 7 different fabrics made from the illustrations in the book. They also have brown bear brown bear. Coolest quilt ever!

I used to quilt all the time–but two kids later, I haven’t in a while! I got my sister hooked, though! And I just forwarded this post to her! … Such a fun and pretty blog!!

Love the colors! My baby is 6 months old and have not made him a quilt yet. I feel guilty too…like I should have made one by now lol. This post motivates me to find a pattern and get with it….but then again I still need to sew up some more cloth diapers for him first!

I have never made a quilt before but my goal is to make my baby’s toddler quilt. I still have some time so I hopefully can do it.
I’m inspired by this website.

All I can say is how do you do it? I just finished my first quilt . . a doll sized one, I followed along witht the Sew Mama Sew sewalong featured recently. It is so crookedy but for my frist ever quilt i’m immensely proud.

My kids are 2.5 and 6 months . .and the baby doesn’t nap regularly yet . . (or sleep that well, for that matter. . ., in fact she moved from our room to my *sob* craft room/office just tonight so there goes, too, my ability to sew after she’s sleeping at night). It’s difficult to make time but so worth it when I do!

love your blog. Your popup pancakes are a MAJOR favourite around here. My daughter can eat more than I can . . at 2.5 that’s quite a feat i think!

I just found your site. How wonderful! Here is another quilting mom’s blog I also came across. I love your ideas.
