I used almond milk, but any milk will work. I like to use a frozen banana because it keeps the smoothie nice and creamy. I always keep peeled bananas in the freezer so I have them ready to go for my smoothies. I added in a little peanut butter and cocoa powder for a chocolate kick. Peanut butter and chocolate are always good together. The ice adds thickness and a nice chill to the smoothie. You blend up all of the ingredients in a blender and have a delicious smoothie in minutes. Kids and adults will love this Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie. It is a good one!

  1. I’m a tri-season high school athlete who burns through calories like crazy- no matter if I’m playing field hockey, basketball, or lacrosse. I came across this recipe and I LOVE IT! It fills me up like nothing else can and it tastes great. I use chocolate milk and instead of a frozen banana, I use ice. I usually put flax seed and whey protein powder in it too. IT’S AMAZING!

  2. If u want to make this smoothie raw, substitute the peanut butter with raw peanuts, substitute the milk with water, and substitute the cacao with raw cacao powder. Then add raw cane sugar and sea salt and u got yourself a raw and living smoothie that is nutritionally superior with all of the living enzymes intact.

  3. I didn’t get enough chocolate flavor when I made it as the recipe directed. So, I added an additional 2 tablespoons of chocolate powder, a teaspoon of sugar and a tiny pinch of salt. Yum!

  4. I found this recipe on another site and have been looking for ways to switch it up. I use soy milk with everything, since I can’t digest cow’s milk, exclude the ice then add Nutella AND peanut butter.
Delish! I find myself craving this smoothie about once a week now and my family is used to my fiending while waiting for the bananas to freeze. ;)

  5. I just tried this and it is so yummy! I used a splash of agave because my almond milk was unsweetened. I will be making this again and again! txs!

  6. great smoothie base! made mine with chocolate almond milk and almond butter, and added flax meal, cinnamon and unsweetened coconut. may also try it with some espresso powder for a little boost in the morning!

  7. I used Nutella instead of peanut butter and it was delicious … Extra chocolatey, just the way I like it :)

  8. What can I use as a substitute for peanut butter, as the taste of peanuts revolts me.. ?

  9. Hi Maria! And Marie! This looks so tasty. I featured it on my blog today! Come check it out and grab a button if you like. :)http://missloviecreations.blogspot.com/2012/02/my-favorite-things-thursday_23.html

  10. Lindsey, I want to know what you think or know of coconut milk. They sell it as a milk sub. right by the soy milk now. That is the only milk my baby doll will tolerate. I wonder how almond milk compares and if maybe I should switch her?

  11. This is my fave recipe. I make it almost daily but I use my chocolate superfoods protein powder instead of cocoa powder to make it more nutritious. I usually make mine with almond milk too but with this protein powder, it can also be made with just water and still be good. Great recovery after a workout.

  12. This sounds awesome! And I’m glad you suggested almond milk, that’s what we’re drinking these days. So this smoothie is happening today!!

  13. We love these! I love that I can add a few cups of spinach or kale and the kids can’t taste it. The peanut butter and banana flavors are so strong, they cover up just about anything!
