Eating Healthy Meals at Home for Only $5

by Marie on January 3, 2010

Erin from 5 Dollar Dinners has just come out with a new cookbook that is a must have for feeding your family on a budget. I was given a copy of The $5 Dinner Mom Cookbook to read and review, and I love it. Easy and yummy meals for just $5 each!

To make all this happen for dinner, Erin shares how to be strategic as you shop, as you collect coupons, and as you plan the meals. And each recipe has the price next to each ingredient on the list!

This book has come just in time for a new goal that my husband and I have made for January: No eating out at restaurants for one month! Ahhhh, I’m not sure if we can do it. Rubio’s fish tacos will be calling to me. And even though some fast food places are cheap, they’re not healthy, and that’s our #2 goal for January. So this book is going to be my new dinner bible! I’ve read the first 3 chapters, made my grocery list for the week, and am heading to the store tomorrow morning!

Thanks, Erin, for making it easy to feed my family yummy meals and save some dough!

That looks like a great cookbook. Good luck with your goal of not eating out! That would be very tough for us also. Especially if we lived anywhere near a Rubio’s! Going there is seriously always one of the first things I want to do when I visit family in Arizona.

Funny that my goal is the same as yours! As we enter an year without my husband (deployed to Iraq). I find it easier to fix anything at home. The kids are not too picky and after a day at school they really don’t want to leave, besides, managing 3 boys on my own while out is a bit challenging. I sure appreciate the book “review”. I will be looking for it on amazon.

I have just really started getting into coupon clipping for groceries. I’ve always done it for other things (especially craft shopping ha ha) but not so much for groceries. Sounds like a great book. I definitely need to start paring down that budget of ours.

Oh how I miss Rubio’s, they don’t have one where we moved to. Tuesday fish taco night was one of my favorite meals each week.

Great goals. Hope you’ll tell us more as you use the book!
