Aww, Tracy must've been scarred for life by a mama who said "Clean your room. It smells like a compost heap."

Your ideas are great. Don't let the cranks get to you.

Too bad you have been suckered into this "carbon footprint" lie. I am all for taking responsibility for the earth, it is a beautiful place; some of us have been brainwashed into this carbon footprint, carbon credits, go green lie.

I once read "something they want, something they need, something to wear and something to read" and that is what we do for xmas.

Holiday decorations- I am someone who has boxes of decorations for each and every holiday- I decorate the mantle & almost all flat surfaces in the main rooms. I even made switchplate covers for each holiday for all the switchplates in the main rooms. But I re-use everything year after year. The coverplates I made using recycled wrapping paper- and every year folks ask me to make them some from their paper. And everyone knows not to crumple their paper with me around!

I want to have the kids make one ceramic plate for the birthday child to use all day but wanted to wait until their art skills were a little better (oooh- am I a bad parent for saying that out loud?)

I love your ideas for the drinks especially. We just had an eco friendly birthday this last weekend, and made sure that everything wasn't recycled could be reused. We also had a drive for the local animal control office. It was all the birthday girls idea, and I think it was a wonderful birthday for her to remember. It was one of the most fun and affordable parties we've ever thrown.

Love this post! I just started a store on Etsy that will be full of kids party stuff that has been recycled and repurposed; there are all kinds of great vintage items out there that can be reused instead of buying new every year. I'm working on getting a circus party pack up now. check it out and let me know what you think: www.vintageparties.etsy.com
