Quantcast

Interview & Giveaway by Patricia Zapata

by Marie on October 16, 2009

This giveaway is now closed. Thanks for entering. The winners of the 3 books are: Christy D, Maureen, and Ashley F. I’ll email you paper crafting winners and get you your books! Congrats!

Patricia Zapata from A Little Hut has just come out with a fabulous new craft book called, Home, Paper, Scissors: Decorative Paper Accessories for the Home. It’s full of creative paper craft tutorials to help decorate your home. This book shares ideas from paper tubes to shredded paper, all to make your house more beautiful. She has a fabulous blog where she shares even more great ideas with paper like these alphabet flash cards, recycled yarn gift tags, and tea light decorations. What Patricia can do with a toilet paper roll is ingenious. She has such simple and original ideas for crafts, she’s an inspiration to me!

I was able to ask Patricia a few questions about her love of paper and how she finds inspiration. Here’s what she had to say:

MT: When did you find you had a passion for paper?
PT: It sounds cliché but I’ve loved working with paper since I was a child. I got away from it for a while but my relatively recent crafty endeavors guided me back towards it.

MT: What materials, other than paper, are you creative with?
PT: Not many people may know this but I do enjoy knitting and crocheting. Embroidery is something that comes and goes. I don’t really sew but I enjoy using fabric for some of my projects too.

MT: Do your children craft with you? What kinds of fun things are your children coming up with?
PT: Our family crafting time comes about in a spontaneous way. Our kids enjoy drawing a lot. I make sure to carry a tote bag with drawing supplies whenever we leave the house for an extended period of time. The kids also like turning any box they come across into a house, building, car, or whatever strikes their fancy at that particular moment. My paper stash is a prime target too. (See Packaging Turned Toys!)

MT: What motivates you to craft?
PT: Working with my hands relaxes me. I get antsy if I haven’t made anything in a few days. Crafting also gives me time away from my graphic design and computer related work which further enhances my two-dimensional projects.

MT: What blogs do you go to find inspiration?
PT: There are so many! It’s really impossible to list any without thinking others should be included. The one that comes to mind right now is Inside Out. I think the variety of work that is featured, that still speaks to me in creativity and style, is what keeps me going back for more.

Thanks, Patricia, for sharing your love of crafts with us. Now on to the good part… We’re giving away 3 copies of this fabulous paper craft book! 3 books = 3 winners, wahoo! So get out your scissors and glue, as you’ll need them for all the amazing projects loaded in this crafty book.

Oooh what a fun giveaway! I’ve been having a lot of fun using wire to crochet with, but I think fabric is probably my favorite material to work with.

2 soybeanlover October 16, 2009 at 5:27 am

This looks wonderful. I’d be very excited to try this stuff out. I’m also a bit of a fabric junkie, there are just so many textures and patterns, and styles, I’m never bored.

3 Zoe October 16, 2009 at 5:33 am

If this is open internationally, please count me in! At the moment we’re really enjoying crafting with beads and other shiny things – I guess not surprising given that I’ve got 2 little girls.

4 Erica October 16, 2009 at 6:30 am

I typically stick to working with paper – cards, banners, wreaths…but I’ve started using a lot of ribbon and more fabric with what I do. This looks like such a neat book!

11 Angela October 16, 2009 at 6:54 am

Great give away thanks for the opportunity!

123 Dannie October 17, 2009 at 2:28 am

Over the last year I have really got into sewing and recycling clothes, which is fun (and occasionally frustrating!) So I would say fabric is my fave atm. I taught myself to knit (slowly!) by watching you tube! It has opened up a whole new world of craft to me and I am now exploring other things like jewellery making. Last year all of our Christmas gifts were handmade, which I was very proud of and I feel I am helping the planet too in getting away from buying ‘made in …’ This book looks superb!

124 linda October 17, 2009 at 5:02 am

I love crafting with paper because it is so accessible!

125 Rachel October 17, 2009 at 6:42 am

Blessings!

I found this blog quite by accident. Oh happy day! I got the recipe I wanted and incredible inspiration all within minutes. This could be the best dinner my husband has had all week and the best family time I could have hoped for.

That looks like a really interesting book. I love doing crafts so much. I don’t have a favorite. All materials work for me. Although if it’s something I have in the house it, makes it a lot easier.

I’d have to say that scrapbook paper has become my favorite choice lately. There’s all kinds of little paper projects I have come up with using paper that my 3 year old daughter and I have been working on for Halloween. Fun to make a craft and a family memory all at the same time!

Fabric is my first choice, Paper is my second almost any mediumm, as long as I dont have to knit or chrochet! (My granny “squares” look more like Texas than a square!)

175 jennifer h October 18, 2009 at 11:04 am

My favorite material is glass. Would love to learn how to blow glass one day.

176 Ada October 18, 2009 at 4:14 pm

Paper. What could be simpler than paper and glue? I admit I am jealous of my sisters’ sewing abilities, but every time I pull out the sewing machine, I end up frustrated. But paper and scissors are a different story. I’ve been cutting paper since I was 3! :)

177 Rhonda White October 18, 2009 at 4:49 pm

I love to do crafts with just about anything!!! I have a 2 and 4 year old that also love to craft. Whether it’s paper, shells, paint, glitter, card board boxes, toliet paper roll, just about anything they can find. I would be really great to win this book. I also became a facebook fan!!

178 Liz October 18, 2009 at 7:55 pm
