After reading Clifford the Firehouse Dog by Norman Bridwell for storytime, we were able to visit a fire station and learn even more about fire safety. If you call ahead to almost any fire station, they’ll take you on a tour of where they live and what they do. (Some fire stations may prefer to come visit you at a different location.)

Fire stations have a special place in our family. Years ago, my husband’s late father was a volunteer fireman. As a boy, Jordan visited this fire house often, before and after his dad passed away.
We recently visited the same fire house where Jordan’s dad worked. The firefighters were great, greeting us with honorary fire hats. My kids got to sit up in the driver’s seat, pretending to take the truck out to a fire. It was fun for Jordan to share a small part of a fire fighter’s day with our kids.

My husband is a volunteer firefighter here and they love to do things like this with kids. Way to go!
I remember doing this as a kid. I loved it!
After our small town was hit by a tornado in June, volunteer firefighters from neighbouring towns loaded up their trucks and brought water to area farms for livestock, flushing toilets (no power, no pumps) etc. They also brought bottled drinking water for those that needed it.
I don’t think my three year old will ever forget those wonderful firefighters pumping out water for us so we could (finally) flush the stupid toilets. Just making it down those roads was heroic.
Cute, my kids love this book. I am totally inspired by your blog.
Have had you in my Bloglines for months but never really sat down to read every single post.
Very good blog.
