Peppermint Whip Cream Magic
Dec 6th, 2007 by Marie
This stuff is really magic. Mostly because it is gone is seconds as your guests will pile huge dollips into their hot cocoa. My sweet sister-in-law, Jeanne, first introduced this to me years ago and I have been making it for parties ever since.

Buy peppermint candy canes or even just peppermint round candies. Then using a blender, crush them to powder. It gets loud, so plug your ears.

Then get your whipped cream out. It can be Cool Whip or whipping cream that you whip yourself. For 16 oz. of whipping cream, I poured 1/2 cup of powdered peppermint candy. Stir it in. It makes a fun pink cream and there are even some tiny chunks that are yummy too.

I like to make a large pot of hot cocoa on the stove and then have my bowl of peppermint whipping cream on the side with a large spoon for scooping. Or you can make one mug of hot chocolate and stir in a spoonful or two of the cream. Either way is delicious. To store left over cream, put it into a freezing container and freeze until your next cup of hot cocoa is ready, simply thaw in the fridge. To store leftover peppermint powder, pour into a plastic bag or container and place in the cupboard.

I promise you will be the hit of the party and you will be asked to bring Peppermint Whipped Cream again next year.

Sounds yum, my children are HUGE hot choccie fans. I read your blog frequently and always feel guilty for enjoying your inspiring ideas and never saying thank you. SO, a big thank you for all your posts - I appreciate them!
lucy and matt are so cute!! i love that picture! and that peppermint cream looks so yummy! this is going on my next cup of hot chocolate. i have atleast one cup a day. haha!
Rachel - We are having cocoa almost everyday too, especially with the nippie weather.
Yum! We make this too! And something else to do with the crushed candy: add it to a batch of meringue and make peppermint meringues.(1/2cup crushed candy to two egg whites and 1/8tsp cream of tartar, and 1/2 cup sugar)Just drop meringue by the teaspoon full on a wax paper covered cookie sheet and bake at 275 for 15 min.Turn off oven (NO OPENING THE OVEN DOOR) and let them sit for 45 min to an hour! I have made 3 batches this week already! Merry Christmas!
YUMMO… I can’t wait to try this. HOt chocolate is my favorite thing in the winter… especially here in NJ where you just can’t get warm no matter what you do. Thanks for the great recipe. I am going to make it this weekend for a little get together we have. thanks.
Yummy! Let’s do this on Christmas Eve’s at Grandma Holt’s!!! Sound like a plan? We can figure it out the closer we get. Hot chocolate w/peppermint whipped cream around Grandpa’s roaring fireplace, snow outside, singing Grandma Passey’s traditional Christmas song book songs.
CTH
C Holt - It is already on the docket for the evening. I really can’t have any holiday party without it. Yeah!
Can’t wait to try this!!
This looks so yummy. I have a friend that always has the sweet treats and I hope I get to this one first to surprise her with something truely wonderful! Thank you!
What a great idea! Makes me wonder how the butterscotch disks all crushed up would be… or cinnamon hard disks
YUM!
[...] I will be buying a few extra candy canes this next December for fun projects, not to mention Peppermint Whipped Cream. Have fun melting and molding away! Technorati Tags: [cooking crafts, Holidays, recipes, [...]
looks so yummy. going to try it. the pink colour is my favourite colour. thanks
Oooh, can’t wait for the weather to get cold so I can make this for my hot-chocolate-loving-kids and their friends! Another thing we do with crushed peppermints is make White Chocolate Bark. Melt a bag or two of white chocoate chips in the microwave, then spread melted chocolate onto a clean cookie sheet, spreading quickly before it cools to about 1/4″ thickness. IMMEDIATELY sprinkle the crushed peppermint on top. (We’ve discovered that the bark is prettier if the peppermint pieces are not uniform in size, so leave some larger and some smaller when you crush the candy. Also, use candy canes rather than the round peppermints because there is more red on the candy canes thus giving the bark a more colorful look.) When the chocolate is completely cool, loosen the bark from the cookie sheet and break it into pieces. Store in a tupperware or cookie tin. This stuff disappears fast at our house. Makes a great gift too! My kids love making it, especially if I let them crush the candy in a large zip-top bag using a wooden rolling pin!
We make peppermint whipped cream and put bite-size pieces of angel food cake with it. You can dip into the dish (like chips and dip), or cut a slice and put a dollop of the cream on top. Garnish with a small candy cane or peppermint disk. It’s also a “hit” at Christmas parties.
This sounds so yummy, I wonder if it would be good in the cream cheese and fluff dip?!? I may have to try it with some chocolate cookies to dip in.
