Spring Time Quilt
Mar 15th, 2008 by Marie
I was going to wait on this Spring quilt, as I thought Easter wasn’t going to be here until April. But since it’s in less than 2 weeks, I sped it up and got this spring quilt done to display for the Easter holiday.

This quilt pattern is supposed to be easter eggs with a little white fluffy bunny in the middle of each. It is a log cabin pattern, sort of. It took on a life of its own after I got started. It is about 42 inches square, just enough to hang on my couch.

I was also going to try to machine quilt it, but it kept puckering and I didn’t want to keep using my seam ripper. So I ended up hand sewing this one. I love to hand sew quilts, I have done 2-3 that way. It makes it feel very old fashioned. Here is what the back looks like with the hand-sewn squares.

I am very happy with how it turned out. It is sprucing up my living room for Spring, super bright and cheery.

Very nice work and it turned out just beautifully! I admire your hand quilting - I know it takes forever, but I really prefer the look of hand sewn too.
Nothing like bright colors to brighten up a room. Your hand quilting looks good. At least you were smart enough to tackle a small project. Not me - I had to start with queen size. What was I thinking? Not much apparently - that’s why it took me 5 years to finish it.
Also, I didn’t even know it was National Quilt Day. How great that I posted my quilt today, without even knowing it! Happy Quilting.

I LOVE your quilt! It’s beautiful. I really, really want to make a quilt, and never have before. Do you know of any good books for beginners?
You’ve got some really lovely Easter crafts on your blog!!
I love the quilt, the colours are beautiful - so perfect for Easter.

Always so crafty Marie! I wish I had the energy to quilt…and I am not even pregnant! I love it
Beautiful Marie!
I just found your blog and I love your quilt! I have done a little of both hand vs. machine but no freeform yet - it just seems a little daunting. =) Look forward to seeing what you do next!
Hey Marie,
The quilt is very sweet. You made great color selections. I love the solid pastels.
Since you don’t have that much extra time on your hands, I would suggest you use Quilt Basting Spray (the pink can one is the best) to temporarily “glue” your quilt sandwhich together. Then, you can machine quilt without all the puckering.
After you’re done just toss in the the washer and all the glue is gone. When it comes out of the dryer, you’ll find a nice antique’y looking quilt.
Glad to see you’ve caught the quilt bug too.

Becky - I think I am only going to be having enough energy for about one more month, before this prego belly gets the best of me.
Leslie - That is a good tip. I have heard of it before, but scared to use it. I need to try it and I am sure I will love it. I think I am scared it will be sticky on my machine or gummy on the needle. But I am all for a shortcut when I can get it. Thanks.
Wow!! What a beautiful quilt! I saw you over on Jill’s blog and came to take a peek. What great ideas you have! Keep up the good work!
This is awesome! So many helpful hints…particularly love the glue idea to stop puckering. I will definately try that. Love the dear little ‘hand quilted’ easter quilt…Good Job!! : )
