Summer Posts from the Past

by Marie on June 23, 2008

As my new little Baby has just arrived, I’ll be taking a short break, posting periodically for a bit. I even have a fabulous giveaway lined up for June 30th, so make your way back next week. I now leave you with some of Make and Takes past posts for Summer, keeping you busy crafting and helping to beat the heat.

My Do’s and Don’ts list for Summer Fun:

Do – get out the snow cone maker and invite all the neighbor kids.

Don’t – get out the blue flavor, your mouth will be stained forever.

Do – watch the veggie garden get big and delicious.

Don’t – watch the birds eat all your strawberries, it just gets you mad.

Do – use the grill for dinner every night, keeping the kitchen cool.

Don’t - use the grill too close to the house or your vinyl siding will melt, oops!

Do – get hooked on a new summer reality t.v. series (Last Comic Standing, So You Think You Can Dance, Next Food Network Star!).

Don’t - get hooked on a new summer reality t.v. series (I always say I want to cancel cable for the summer).

What other Do’s and Don’ts are on your list for Summer Fun in the Sun?

Don’t take your kids to a parade this summer if you intend to sit in the sun for 3 hours without sunscreen. In some circumstances, this can lead to a long miserable weekend to follow.

DO get wet, dirty, sandy and covered with bubble solution.

DON’T lock yourself inside with the air conditioner turned on the “stay cool.”

DO wear your sunscreen and reapply often.

LOVE the water toys…we’ll be making those for day camp! Good to know on the grill and siding. Would love to watch veggies grow if I could only keep the dogs out of the garden. We did cancel cable last summer…still haven’t gotten it back. Hooray for internet where we can download the vital shows…..love Last Comic Standing!

Do get window tinting on west facing windows….delightful!!!

Congrats on the new little one! I’m getting through a weeks worth of blog posts today, so this is the first I’ve heard of it.

Do eat a rootbeer popsicle every hour while it’s hot. And one every two hours when it’s not.

10 NJTracyJean June 25, 2008 at 8:32 pm

DO visit your local farmer’s market or better yet pick-your-own place and enjoy plenty of fresh local produce

DON’T try so hard to make everyday “special” for your kids that you end up exhausted and cranky

DO let your littlest ones stay up after dark at least once to watch the fireflies.

DON’T forget to check for ticks and DON’T go into panic mode if you do find one.

DO get up early enough some days for a little quiet reading or journaling OUTSIDE with the birds before the fam is up and while the cool morning air is still available.

DO go somewhere you can watch for falling stars together.

and of course…
DO find some non-chorinated water to swim in…lake-river-ocean.

DO buy at least one book off your summer reading list.

DON’T forget to buy books for the kids too or you will never finish a chapter!

DO use your patio furniture – eat supper, drink lemonade, play games, watch fireflies.

DON’T forget to light a few citronella candles. Romantic and efficient too.

DO make a slip and slide out of visqueen and a water hose.

DON’T be a fuddy duddy. Enjoy the fun with your kids.

DO let your kids take pics of the summer activities.

DON’T erase the ones of you no matter if they always seem to get your worst angle!
