Easy Homemade Lasagna Recipe

Loaded with layers of no boil pasta noodles, Bolognese meat sauce, Ricotta cheese, Mozzarella and Parmesan, every bite is just cheesy delicious. Plain, simple and just perfect!

If you’re a meat lover, look no further! This Beef Lasagna recipe is everything you’ve imagined and more. I have combined ground beef and Italian style ground sausage for the best meaty sauce you’ve ever tasted. This is such an easy lasagna recipe and smells absolutely crazy good as it bakes.

You can replace the meat if you prefer and enjoy a vegetarian lasagna recipe with plenty of grated veggies: carrots, zucchini and red bell pepper would work fantastic with this recipe.

How To Make Beef Lasagna

The secret of the best lasagna recipe ever, is the sauce. Hearty, meaty Bolognese sauce. A good quality store bought spaghetti sauce is fine if you don’t have time to make your own sauce. Will just add a couple of ingredients to boost a bit the flavors.

All you need to do is add minced onion and garlic to a skillet with 1 tablespoon olive oil and cook it for a couple of minutes before adding the sauce to the pan. Add some chopped fresh herbs: parsley, basil or oregano and cook for a couple of minutes. That’s it, your sauce is nothing short of flavors!

This Homemade Lasagna is the perfect make-ahead meal to refrigerate and bake the next day or to freeze if you’re making a bigger batch.

Easy Lasagna Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 lbs Italian style sausage, casings removed
  • 1 lbs ground beef, preferably lean beef
  • 1 large white onion minced
  • 5 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 jar (45 ounces) spaghetti sauce
  • 12 lasagna noodles (no boil lasagna noodles)
  • 3 cups Ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups Mozzarella cheese
  • ¾ cup Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons basil, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons dried oregano
  • salt and pepper

Method:

  1. In a medium bowl combine Ricotta cheese with ½ cup Parmesan cheese and the egg. Season with salt and pepper and set aside.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon olive oil. Add minced onion and garlic and cook for 1 minute before adding the sausage meat and ground beef. Cook the beef mixture until it is browned, stirring often to break up the meat. Pour off any fat and add the spaghetti sauce to the pan. Season with salt and pepper and add herbs too. Allow to cook for another 2 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Preheat oven to 350F.
  4. Prepare a 13×9 inch pan and spread a thin layer of the meat sauce at the bottom of the pan. Layer with uncooked lasagna noodles, cheese mixture, meat sauce and Mozzarella cheese and repeat the process until all ingredients are used. Cover with aluminium foil. Don’t forget to save ½ cup of mozzarella cheese for topping when we remove the foil.
  5. Bake in the oven for 40 minutes. Remove the foil, spread remaining Mozzarella cheese and return to oven for another 15 minutes.
