Place the butter in the bowl of the stand mixer (you can use a hand mixer too, if you don't have a stand mixer). Using the whisk attachment of the stand mixer, whip the butter on medium-high speed for 3-5 minutes, stopping from time to time to scrape the bowl.

Reduce the speed to medium-low and add vanilla extract and cream to the bowl. Gradually add powdered sugar and taste. You can add more powdered sugar that 2 cups if it's not sweet enough for you. Gradually add extra 1/2 cup at one time and taste.

Once ready, use immediately or cover with plastic wrap and keep at room temperature for up to 2 hours before using or refrigerate. Bring to room temperature and re-whip before using it.
