Easy Lasagna Recipe

Ingredients

  • lbs  Italian style sausage casings removed
  • lbs  ground beef preferably lean beef
  • large white onion minced
  • cloves  garlic minced
  • 1 jar (45 ouncespaghetti sauce
  • 12 lasagna noodles no boil lasagna noodles
  • 3 cups Ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups Mozzarella cheese
  • ¾ cup Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons basil chopped
  • 2 tablespoons dried oregano
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl combine Ricotta cheese with ½ cup Parmesan cheese and the egg. Season with salt and pepper and set aside.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon olive oil. Add minced onion and garlic and cook for 1 minute before adding the sausage meat and ground beef. Cook the beef mixture until it is browned, stirring often to break up the meat. Pour off any fat and add the spaghetti sauce to the pan. Season with salt and pepper and add herbs too. Allow to cook for another 2 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Preheat oven to 350F.
  4. Prepare a 13x9 inch pan and spread a thin layer of the meat sauce at the bottom of the pan. Layer with uncooked lasagna noodles, cheese mixture, meat sauce and Mozzarella cheese and repeat the process until all ingredients are used. Cover with aluminium foil. Don’t forget to save ½ cup of mozzarella cheese for topping when we remove the foil.
  5. Bake in the oven for 40 minutes. Remove the foil, spread remaining Mozzarella cheese and return to oven for another 15 minutes.
