This book is pure fun, with magic, fantasy, and adventure. I loved it and highly recommend it. Fablehaven is gaining in popularity and is being considered the next series to get into as Harry Potter is coming to an end. Fablehaven’s sequel is being released today, May 1st, and I am very excited to go out and read it.
I recently attended a book club where we were privilaged to have the author of Fablehaven come and let us in on some of the details of his book. Brandon Mull writes a story where creatures and fairies from “fables” need a “haven”. The two main characters are a sister, who is very sensible, and a brother, who is nothing but trouble. Everyone can relate to that, right?
Here are a couple more reviews that others have said for Fablehaven:
“The dialogue snaps and sizzles…like Harry Potter, Fablehaven can be read aloud in a family with as much pleasure for grownups as for children….do yourself a favor, and don’t miss the first novel by a writer who is clearly going to be a major figure in popular fantasy.” – Orson Scott Card, New York Times Bestselling Author
“Imagination runs wild in Fablehaven. It is a lucky book that can hold this kind of story.” – Obert Skye, Author of Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo

If you like those some other series/graphic novels you should read: Fables- it’s a comic series and they’ve been collected into graphic novels. The theory behind it is that all of the fairy tale and various other type of creatures have had to leave their homeland and have migrated to NY. It’s an interesting read. The other book series you should read is the Sisters Grimm, it’s a similar type of setup, two tween sisters and their Grandmother are protecting/policing the local fable community.
