Busy Bags

by Marie on June 19, 2008

Here’s another Guest Make and Taker with a great idea. Tamela and her kids are sharing their Busy Bags. With these Busy Bags ready to go, hopefully you won’t be hearing the words, “I’m bored”, coming out of their mouths.

Busy Bags are a great travel companion. They’re perfect to pull out when your kids have to wait at a restaurant, a doctor’s office, or in the car! They’re life savors and pretty inexpensive to make. Head to your local Dollar Tree or party section at Wal-Mart and pick out things your child would like.

Kids Busy Bags

We put a small book, a few crayons and note pad, a top, 2 small toys, a card matching game, and silly putty in our bags. Other things you could add is a mini bottle of bubbles, a small car, or anything else that would fit in your bag!

Thanks Tamela, for the great idea. I have most of these things, now I just need to put them all together in a fun zip-up bag. A child size fanny pack would work great too. I also think silly putty is a fun one to have in the bag. It’s fairly mess free and fun for kids to manipulate, keeping them “busy”.

That is very clever idea. I also buy something new for that occasions – some books, coloring books, and crayons because they are much easier to find in our little town.

I do this for long trips. I use zip up lunch boxes and add “snacks” (cereal in ziplocks) and a sippy cup drink along with the toys. My 3 year old triplets love it!

Very cute idea. I am putting together a “quiet box” for my kids to have handy doing the summer when Mommy needs some silence. Will be posting it over at my blog in the next day or so if ya want to check it out.
Love looking at your blog and all the fun stuff you do with your kids!!

Mindy – I like the idea of adding in snacks. Those are usually a necessity with us.

Jessica – I’ll be sure to check it out. I love the name “quiet box”.

Hi! I’m just lovin’ this site – I stumbled upon it while trying to find a proper picture of Bread Paint (which you had a darling photo of!). Now I’m hooked! Can’t wait to learn about the next Make and Take, and would love to be a guest maker-taker! If you’ve got a minute, come visit me:

I love this idea… and I could use up some of the odd toys that just kick around too… I have been sorting out toys and I needed something like this to put some of them in…

When my kids were little I’d pick up little totes, backpacks etc at yard sales and have a whole collection of these. All included a few crayons and mini notepads. Great place to put the fast food toys and Bday goodie bag do dads and other annoying little toys found around the house. It was always a fun surprise for them.
