Learning to Fly Fish, I’m a Natural

by Marie on August 21, 2009

I was recently invited to a fabulous women’s blogging retreat by April from Sweet Life in the Valley. We went up the canyon to Soldier Hollow, UT, a place where the 2002 Winter Olympics were held. It was fun to meet and greet with fellow bloggers, a perfect girl’s night out. (I’m in the back shooting my guns!)

One of the best parts of the night was going fly fishing with Rocky Mountain Outfitters as part of the retreat. I’ve always wanted to learn, ever since I saw Brad Pitt in A River Runs Through It (didn’t you too?) It really is as peaceful and majestic as it looks in the movie. Part of me is sad that I’d never done it before, especially as I live 30 minutes from this place! And the guide even said I was doing great for my first time, saying my casts were perfect (he pretty much said I’m a natural!)

The best part was getting to wear these bibs and boots and walking all through the river. I loved being half way deep in water casting and mending the line again and again, amongst the beauty of the river. And Heather, next to me below, even caught a fish! Yes, I’ll definitely be going again!

Thanks to April for a fun event and bringing us all together to mingle, get out in nature, and even win some prizes: thanks, Down East Basics.

Yes, it was a Brad Pitt in a River Runs Through it that made me want to try fly fishing too. It was so much fun Flying fishing with the girls. Thanks for coming.

Oh, I am so jealous! Your weekend sounds relaxing and refreshing. I would love to try fly fishing one day. Not really to catch a fish. Just to be out in the water in a beautiful, peaceful environment.

Glad you had a good time!
