I have just discovered Sufjian Stevens and am in love with the music. Also just saw Polar Express, what a great movie!
Some things are just classics.
I also read The Polar Express every year, and that has been a tradition for many many years.
I got Sufjan Stevens’ Christmas album last year and I love it! I also listen to December, and that has been a tradition since my childhood.
I have a deep need to watch Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer every year, but I also love White Christmas and Elf.
Love your blog, I don’t know if I have ever commented before, but I read it all the time.
Have a happy Holiday!
My children can’t watch A Charlie Brown Christmas enough….my 5 year old son has parts of it memorized…he even called our cat a Blockhead :)
love December by George Winston! My fav, though is The Peanuts Christmas CD.
I love that you love Sufjan! My husband and I have all of his Christmas albums, and I absolutely love them!
Also, I love “Elf”. So much. Without shame.
Oooh…thanks for the list! I need to write down the “listening” one esp. I love new music, esp this time of year!

Christmas Story, of course, and Christmas Vacation! Those are the best! We watch them on Christmas Day every year at my parents and always find something NEW to laugh at! So much fun…brings a smile to my face just thinking about them!
We love Polar Express. We have also been reading a lot of Jan Brett’s Christmas Treasury and Curious George Christmas ;)
Listening to Bing Crosby, doesn’t get much better than that.
And watching…well, nothing yet! I plan on renting the Frosty and Rudolph movie. Oh wait, my kids are LOVING Mr. Kreuger’s Christmas.
We are listening to A Charlie Brown Christmas. At night, we are watching The Year Without Santa Claus featuring Mr. Heat Miser and Mr. Snow. What fun!
Happy Holidays!

Hi Marie! Happy Holidays! I was mad at Chris VanAllsburg for a few years for “selling out” such a great book to a movie! I’ve been reading it to my classes for years…I figured seeing the movie would steal their excitement for the book! But then I watched the movie w/ my son and LOVED it!! It was so well done. I still read the book to my class (along with bells) and they do really still like it!! This year my son has watched the Polar Express about 8 times already!! I’m glad I don’t get tired of it!!! Yet- Thanks for sharing your book ideas!!
Thanks for this list of all things “Christmas-y”. You’ve included many of my favorites too!
Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas without watching While You Were Sleeping and listening to Josh Grouben sing Christmas music.
I love visiting your blog each day. I especially like today’s post. We just introduced The Polar Expression to our son this year and he loves it. We aren’t as fond of the movie. And I just love White Christmas, watched it last night! We also watch Miracle on 34th Street each year.
Merry Christmas!
We have been watching The Polar Express and Pooh’s Super Sleuth Christmas Movie. I just read Tasha Tudor’s ‘The Doll’s Christmas’ to my daughter and she loved it!
I love White Christmas…and Holiday Inn…I watch those every year, oh yeah and It’s a wonderful life…only NOT with the commercial breaks.
In my childhood, the Christmas classic was the animated “The Snowman.” It’s rather sad, so maybe not appropriate for under-8s or so, unless you have a very mature kindergardner. I highly recommend it: beautiful animation — the kind that looks like colored pencils — and beautiful music. No dialogue, except for the introduction and one lovely song.
Ooooo, great stuff has been added! The Christmas Story is always a classic! Love Charlie Brown. And Josh Groban’s CD is fabulous too!
